The BNSF railway has taken the
position that not whistling or not whistling the proper sequence at
road crossings or men and equipment is grounds for dismissal.. The
engineer and conductor, if the conductor has a horn button on his
side of the cab, will be dismissed immediately.
The BLE&T ATSF committee of
the BNSF recommends that engineers comply with the whistle rules 100
%. The committee also recommends that if
a engineer needs to leave his seat, for any reason, that the train
be stopped before the engineer seat is vacated by the
engineer.
I can not stress enough how
important this is.. Do NOT place your job in jeopardy. STOP THE
TRAIN IF YOU VACATE THE ENGINEERS SEAT
!!
Do not let any other crew member
blow the whistle for you. As the engineer it is YOUR job and
responsibility to insure that the whistle rules are complied
with..
